Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Wounds 4 Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade
Officials in Sacramento County are examining a shooting incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Park at the moment officers were clearing a large unauthorized gathering of hundreds of attendees.
What Led to the Shooting
Law enforcement initially responded to the park on Howe Avenue at approximately 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, a second call came in mentioning a reported physical confrontation taking place at Howe Park.
A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. However, deputies found that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without permission.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and making announcements directing those gathered to vacate the area. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
At the height of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The barrage of gunfire triggered a stampede. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to looking for those injured.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Altogether, four victims were located with gunshot injuries. The victims — including a female and three males all believed to be in their twenties — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Emergency physicians indicated that two had critical injury classifications, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also responded and helped care for the injured prior to hospital transport.
What Investigators Found
The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have happened on the Cottage Way corridor next to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators discovered additional shell casings on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the more info wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that a second shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was put under lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. CSI investigators and detectives kept processing evidence for hours.
Detainees in Solano County
Intelligence received over scanner radio traffic showed that a Kia connected to the shooting was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four individuals were held for questioning. Sacramento law enforcement were en route to collect those detained to pick up those detained for further questioning. Surveillance footage showed that two individuals had fired weapons.
